I wanted to share a project that we did some time back for Alcuin preschool. I thought it would be fun to do the Making of an Image on the blog. First of all, it is impossible to get 10 active preschoolers doing exactly what you want at any moment. So for this 1st shot, I actually composited together about 5 different images to get the best “look” for each kid. We were singing songs and doing all kinds of stuff to distract the kiddos into staying in one spot. I wanted some of the kids looking up at the wall and some of the kids just playing with the buckets of paint. Once, I got the best shot of each kid into one image by blending layers together, I converted it to a black a white. My assistant Charis took over by painting back in color on some of the kid’s pants and shoes. She went in and added some paint to the brushes and buckets. Finally, the most time consuming part was adding the lettering. We wanted the quote to look like the kids had painted it onto the brick wall. Making the font look messy but still legible is definitely a challenge. This art piece was raffled off for a few hundred dollars to go towards the Alcuin Preschool.
